Traumatic experiences can affect every part of your life; physically, emotionally, and mentally. A person may experience the affects of trauma after a single event or from years of on going events. Working with people who have experienced trauma in the past, I hear often that they have been told to

 

‘get over it’

or

‘that was in the past, move on’.

 

If you are physically hurt, people can visionally see the damage and the path of healing. Unfortunately, with PTSD people can not visionally see how your brain is reacting to triggers from the trauma.

 

Through support, education, and evidence based approaches, helping you to understand what is going on physically and emotionally is the first step to change.
